Walking Relax week Spring 2019

Walking Algarve

Last year The White House organised its very first walking relax week. It was a big success. The group was enthusiastic, we made new friends, we walked, talked and watched many birds and other species. Together we had a great time. Most probably it was the combination of everything that made this week an unforgettable experience.

It was a great week. So sorry that it went by so quickly. The wine tasting was also very nice. We had great fun in a relaxed atmosphere

This spring 2019 we will have a new walking relax week! A perfect opportunity to enjoy spring, the beautiful nature when Algarve is at its most beautiful and of course the relaxing stay at The White House B&B. This walking-relaxing week starts on Wednesday 3 April. The walks are from Thursday 4 april to Sunday 7 April. On Monday, April  8, everyone will return home (or you can stay a few days extra to recover …). There are several flights possible that are very affordable during this period, especially if you book in time.

The walks have a moderate-light profile and everyone with a reasonable walking condition can join. The walks mainly run along paved roads and narrow goat paths and there are occasional short stretches over rocks, where some step security is desired. The walks last about 3 hours. After the walks we enjoy the packed lunches together, after which we return to The White House for a relaxing afternoon and evening. Of course the walks will be different than last year.

Walking Group Algarve

Of course there is enough room in our B & B to relax, take a dip in the swimming pool, have a drink in the village pub or simply read a book. In addition, we will visit the well-known monthly market in Olhão on a Saturday morning. Three evenings, we serve a delicious three course menu. Finally we will have (again) our delicious wine and tapas tasting in the old center of Olhão (optional).

Wednesday 3 April
Arrival at the White House, welcome dinner and introduction

Thursday, 4 April
A walk in the area around Paderne Castle. A great area with a great history. Many fights took place here between the Moorish rulers of Al-Gharb – Algarve’s original Arabic name – and the indigenous people. The area has rich vegetation, beautiful viewpoints towards the sea and animals such as the otter, the weasel and many bird species.

Friday, 5 April
A walk in the hilly sides of São Brás de Alportel where Luis will show us the cork trees and tell us everything about the fascinating story of how the Portuguese live with cork. This route is part of the Via Algarviana, a Great Pedestrian Route (GR13) which leads all the way through the Algarve, from Alcoutim in the East to Cabo de São Vicente in the West.

Algarve walking Week

Saturday, April 6
Immediately after breakfast we pay a visit to the large fish market in Olhão. Relax in the afternoon. In the evening we have the (optional) wine and tapas tasing.

Sunday, April 7
The third walk takes us along the steep red cliffs of the Portuguese Western Algarve. We will follow a part of the Seven Hanging Valleys Trail. Here, the turquoise ocean has conspired with the yellow cliffs to create the well known Algarvian seascape… and a rewarding and memorable walks along the coastline. We will start at Praia da Marinha, one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe.

Monday, November 5
Breakfast and departure home.

Our guide

The guidance during the three walks is again the reliable hands of Luís Gonçalves, a born Portuguese from this region with a wealth of knowledge about local nature, the landscape and sustainability. He speaks very good English and he is a very nice guide! Through the eyes of Luis you see nature in a different way and you learn a lot about the Mediterranean landscape and the native animals.

We look back on some amazing days. They passed very quickly. We were touched by your hospitality. We felt very lucky to have this nice group and it was very enjoyable to walk together.
